Welcome To The West Point Society of Central Florida
The West Point Society of Central Florida exists to serve alumni, ex-cadets and friends of The United States Military Academy living in Central Florida as well as those visiting the area. The purpose of the society is to provide a networking platform for those associated with the Academy, provide news, information, and to further the ideals and promote the welfare of the USMA.
Freshman Harrison Greenhill was congratulated by Army coach Jeff Monken after Army defeated Fordham in a 64-6 victory. Harrison Greenhill graduated from Lake Highland last year and was named "Outstanding Defensive Finisher" in Coach Monken's tweet.
A number of us were there at Gator's for the season opener against Fordham to cheer the team on. Marc Angle was kind enough to tip us off on this tweet.

Lots of people want to become bestselling authors, but I learned recently about an entrepreneur who turned a prank into a bestselling book in a single day. His secrets? An ambitious joke, a well-timed Facebook post--and an enthusiastic audience of thousands.
Joe O'Connell is our current Vice President of the West Point Society. Not many people know how busy Joe is with his job and other activities. He has been an very active member of the AUSA Sunshine Chapter and is currently on their board. Joe recently received an award from the AUSA Sunshine Chapter. Word leaked out to me and I was able to get a picture and some information about the award. The picture shown here is of Mike Genetti ('75) and Earle Denton's wife presenting the AUSA Sunshine Chapter Earle L. Denton Award. Let's all congratulate Joe on this achievement and also Mike Genetti, who was the 2014 award winner, for all the work they have done with the AUSA Sunshine Chapter over the years. Joe O'Connell, COL, USAR (Ret), USMA Class of '83, was awarded the AUSA Sunshine Chapter Earle L Denton Award for Outstanding Support to the Central Florida Army Family. The award was established in 2009 and the title of this award recognizes Lieutenant Colonel Earle L. Denton, United States Army (Retired), who has been an energetic and committed leader for more than thirty years, successfully advocating many issues and causes benefiting both the Army Family in Central Florida, and the larger population of veterans from all of America’s armed forces. Earle was a Friend of West Point and often attended the Founders Day events with our Society.

UNTIL THE MID-1990S, SQUARED-AWAY PLEBES (what they call “freshmen who have their s**t together” at the United States Military Academy—better known as West Point—located some 60 miles up the Hudson River from Manhattan) carried a circular piece of paper in two small Zip-Lock plastic bags under their hats whenever the mess hall was serving pie. They always knew when pie would be on the menu because they always knew when everything was on the menu; part of their job as the punching bags of the United States’s finest military academy was to know what was for lunch.
