Welcome To The West Point Society of Central Florida
The West Point Society of Central Florida exists to serve alumni, ex-cadets and friends of The United States Military Academy living in Central Florida as well as those visiting the area. The purpose of the society is to provide a networking platform for those associated with the Academy, provide news, information, and to further the ideals and promote the welfare of the USMA.
The West Point Society of Central Florida (WPSCF) is pleased to announce that Robert A. McDonald the 8th Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, will be the guest speaker for Founders Day at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort on March 17, 2018.
Robert A. McDonald was the eighth Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Procter & Gamble (P&G).
In 2014 as VA Secretary, McDonald launched VA’s ambitious transformational journey to be the No. 1 customer-service agency in Federal government. The Harvard Business School’s November 2016 study of VA’s transformation judged that, thanks to Secretary McDonald’s leadership, VA “had made impressive progress.” By the end of his tenure in January 2017, all VA Medical Centers were providing Veterans access to same day services in primary and mental health care when needed right away.
The following story and clip come from CBS Sunday Morning
And now a page from our "Sunday Morning" Almanac: December 24th, 1826, 191 years ago today ... the day you might say West Point was into the drink, the drink in this case being eggnog.
The creamy, alcohol-laced holiday treat was a traditional part of the Academy's annual Christmas celebration. But in the year 1826, the school's strict new superintendent, Colonel Sylvanus Thayer, just said "no." He banned all alcohol on campus.
Bob McDonald ('75) was kind enough to forward some information he received from LTG Caslen ('75) about the upcoming game and preparation. Thanks to Bob for sharing this information with us.
Note: You can click on the picture below to see the Army uniforms that will be worn in this year's game.
On Sunday evening, we unveiled this year's uniform to the football team in honor of the historic 10th Mountain Division. In a short ceremony, appropriately hosted on the ice of Tate Rink, we presented this year's uniform and relayed to our players some of the incredible history of the division and their motto, Climb to Glory.
Scott Collier ('76) and Jeff Staubach (Roger's son) are shown together with one of the footballs that will be used at this year's Army/Navy football game. Roger Staubach put a number "12" on 48 game balls that will be used in the game this year. These footballs all have a chip implanted for authenticity. Click Here to see a closeup of the football which goes hand in hand with Navy's "Blue Angel" inspired uniforms for this year.
As a side note, Scott has worked for Roger since 1985 and has endured going into the office "after" the Army/Navy game and seeing the game score written on his white board. Last year was different (after fourteen long years) and Scott is fully confident, that this year he will once again be the one being taken out to dinner.
If you have any stories you would like to share about this rivalry, let us know.
